THE Print Bar may have started because owner Jared Fullinfaw wasn’t allowed to take leave from his full-time job to go to auditions.
But four years on, the actor-turned-businessman is receiving gongs for a different type of performance.
Last month, the 27-year-old founder of the custom printing business was named the Australian Small Business Awards’ Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
“I didn’t think I was going to get the award but I hope it inspires other people because I’m just a regular person who took a risk,” Mr Fullinfaw said.
The gong was awarded for the way the founder managed the growth of his business as it took off, now employing 20 staff.
He was also recognised for the staff culture promoted at The Print Bar.
“When I started hiring people I didn’t want it to just be a printing place but a creative space where our jobs were not just printing but to share creativity and to inform,” he said.
“You spend much of your life at work and you devote so much of your time to it I feel like bosses should giveback more.”
And, Mr Fullinfaw has not forgot his roots, “giving back” to the actors on staff.
“Most people who work here do two things, we do have an actor working here and of course he can take time off for auditions.”
The Print Bar will soon make its own garments and launch an online shop.
