In the Saying Something series, we collaborate with a diverse range of creatives to showcase their originality and talent. We aim to highlight what inspires them and how we can empower them to Say Something on Something.
Cue, Aurelia St Clair – a multi-talented creative who wears many hats. They keep themselves busy with two podcasts, marathon training, multiple comedy projects, cooking, and content creation. Aurelia opened their lovely home to us on a sunny Naarm morning to chat about their latest project: a new podcast entitled Non-dairy Presenting.
You may have already seen their incredible apartment on The Design Files – but in case you haven’t, we’re happy to paint you a picture. Once you step inside, you’ll be greeted by vinyl records, nooks filled with distinctive curiosities, and their adorable dog Kenzo. Aurelia’s home shares their own eclecticism, warmth and welcoming nature, which we felt firsthand as we sat down for a chat.
Having grown up abroad and being of German and Cameroonian heritage, Aurelia moved to Australia just over a decade ago. In this short amount of time, the comedian-slash-content creator has become something of a household name in Naarm and beyond. You may have seen their witty tongue-in-cheek TikTok videos covering Naarm suburb archetypes with hilarious accuracy, critical commentary of current issues, and bookmark-worthy outfits.
Apart from the many things that keep them busy, Non-dairy Presenting is Aurelia’s latest and most exciting project to date. In this solo podcast, they review products and experiences, draw tarot cards, gossip just a tad bit, and provide uncensored non-dairy presenting advice.
Non-dairy presenting 101
Is that a soy, oat, almond, or macadamia latte for you, then?
The idea of being “non-dairy presenting” ties in perfectly with Aurelia’s exploration of how the latest trends influence social tropes and stereotypes.
We’re pretty sure we’re not the only ones who’ve ordered a flat white and received disbelieving stares for choosing full cream milk over a particular bean or nut juice. Was it our Birkenstocks and mullet? Surely not.
If it’s happened to you, you get the picture. If it hasn’t, then you’ve probably never been pegged as non-dairy presenting before. While you may be free to go forth and order whatever type of milk you desire, you’re definitely still welcome to tune in to Non-dairy Presenting.
The podcast
When we asked Aurelia “why do a podcast?”, they answered, “because it’s hard”. Whether it’s marathon training or one of their many other projects, Aurelia loves a challenge. As they already host the award-winning podcast POPGAYS: A Pop Culture Podcast for Postmodern Queers, Non-dairy Presenting was an exciting way for them to continue making an influence through the digital airwaves.
“My beloved listeners, welcome back to another episode of the Non-dairy Presenting Podcast,” Aurelia croons at the beginning of each new episode.
Setting the tone with a tarot reading, Aurelia channels divine intervention to start their listeners’ sonic journey. They then traverse through the latest trends and topics — from the most recent Reddit AITA, to buying delicious $40 cans of potato chips at Piedimonte’s. Aurelia’s storytelling ability keeps you engaged and leaves you feeling better about the state of the world by the end of an episode.
Aurelia describes Non-dairy Presenting as a way to process their musings about the world, offering a refreshing opinion on those that are commonly held. We can’t lie – at this point, we’re addicted (to the podcast and to the $40 potato chips).
The podcast merch
Aurelia’s Non-dairy Presenting merch includes an adorable lineup of t-shirts, totes, and hats. The back of the t-shirts are designed with glowing illustrations of their face on a plant-based milk carton. Who wouldn’t want Aurelia to literally have their back, right?
Meanwhile, the tote bags and hats are perfect for grabbing a latte or heading to the Fitzroy Pool – whilst being non-dairy presenting and sun smart, of course.
Where can I get the merch?
Head over to the Non-dairy Presenting website to grab your t-shirt, tote, or hat today. We hear they all come with extra love from Aurelia themselves — which is a great deal in our books.
